Investing in a happier & healthier you!
2 Startups working on "supercharging your mind", & "making you healthy & keeping you healthy forever"
Update on our Blog Performance
2023 was undoubtedly the year of the public markets. If our blog was to actually report a performance it would be an astounding 68 odd % in just 5.5 months. We do acknowledge the run in the public markets is responsible for a large part of it, but we are still extremely content with our performance.
Assumptions
We have only considered stocks that we wrote about more than 90 days prior (7 stocks)
The average holding period is 5.5 months (taken from the date we wrote the post to today)
All 7 stocks were bought equally.
The return is 68% in 5.5 months and not annualized!
Given the euphoria in the public markets we want to begin this year differently & I (Govind) write about 2 particular startups in which I invested in 2023! Over the last 5 years I have invested in 30+ startups and multiple VC funds but these 2 startups are what i believe will be my potential Ronaldo and Messi :).
Disclaimer: The post is not intended to recommend the product / service offered or investment advice. We name both startups given they are not listed and stocks cannot be bought on public markets.
The 2 startups are :-
Level Supermind - Supercharge Your Mind
Amura - Making you healthy and keeping you healthy forever
My post is not a hard investment thesis but a part of the journey that led me to invest and ends with where they stand today.
Pre - Investment Journey
I first, became a user, then a power user, then an advocate of the product / service & then an investor
I was never “sold” the product via “performance ads” or “cold calls”, I came across Level Supermind from the founders launch post on Linkedin & tried the product and came across Amura from a prominent Mumbai VC’s post on how it helped him and his team get in shape and become healthier.
I witnessed the benefits first hand. Amura made me healthier with a nutrition program that helped me lose 18 kgs (after failing at multiple programs over 10 years), and improved my key health markers & levels of energy. When I did the program I did not know the founder and dealt with 10+ Amura team members over 5 months and was amazed by the level of care & concern shown by all & how they motivated me when I was about to quit and at the same time shared evidence based advice when I had queries. It was a science, service & soul based program and not “productized” like others. The entire program was remote and I do maintain a similar weight with small gains even 18 months post the program.
With Level Supermind my experience was terrific from day 1. I am not a big fan of sermons or gyaan but it was amazing how level supermind took Old Indian Ethos and turned it into practical meditations and lessons/advice for today’s generation. It helped me conquer two things, its meditations helped me lower my fear of flying while flying and its beautiful advice/lessons such as Lessons from the Bhagwad Gita broken aptly into 10 minute sessions by SB Keshava Swami help me start my day better!
I interacted with Amura users across my friends, family & colleagues who all did the program as they heard good things from others who did it and majority of them succeeded at & completed the program and shared the love for Amura. The minority who didn’t complete the program were disappointed but were not sour towards Amura! Aaroah is on the Amura program as of today :)
Aaroah & I found level supermind being used by people across demographics from young students and professionals who have moved to Mumbai to battle loneliness to students across India preparing for exams like the JEE to battle stress to people across age groups who were simply using it as it helped them feel better! Almost all who were users were power users!
I then reached out to the founders/founding teams & saw
Founding teams were clear with what they were solving for and obsessed with customer feedback and outcomes
Both companies had not spent a single rupee on “performance marketing” and grew due to customer love and advocacy.
Founding teams operated from first principles and all discussions focussed around solving “real problems” faced by talking to “real customers” resulting in “evidence based solutions” . I never saw shortcuts / hacks and vanity metrics being discussed. This culture spread throughout the organization witnessed by me as a user and investor.
The larger vision was NOT growing by over - productizing/ over - spending / over- selling but by improving existing offerings & adding products / services that add more value and do not kill the soul of the business.
Founding teams had massive belief in their business given they knew their offerings had demand globally, were scaleable and hence they prioritized sustainable growth with a strong foundation rather than growing too quickly with a weak base!
Where they stand today!
They still spend Zero on acquiring customers!
Across both businesses all key metrics have continuously grown such as NPS, Customer Love, Revenue, Growth in Global Customers (30+ Countries) etc. Both startups are working on interesting new additions to their existing offerings that will add significant value to their customers' lives. Additionally
One shouldn’t mistake Amura as a “weight-loss” company, their vision is much larger, including helping you live longer!
One shouldn’t mistake Level Supermind as a “mental health” company, their impact will be much larger including improving your productivity & maximising your potential
I end with a cheesy quote from 3 idiots “Success Ke Peeche Mat Bhaago, Excellence Ka Peecha Karo, Success Jhak Maarke Tumhare Peeche Ayegi” I truly believe both Amura and Level define excellence in their own fields for me and I’m excited to be a part of their journey as a user & an investor!
